Mai Ezz Eldin Finds Triumph in “My Heart and Its Key”
Mai Ezz Eldin: “My Heart and Its Key” Triumph
Egyptian actress Mai Ezz Eldin recently opened up about her role as “Mayar” in the TV series My Heart and Its Key. She shared insights into her experience working with director Tamer Mohsen, co-star Asser Yassin, and the rest of the talented cast, highlighting how the project became a turning point in her life.
Support from Yasmin Abdel Aziz
Mai revealed that the support of fellow actress Yasmin Abdel Aziz and other colleagues in the entertainment industry played a crucial role in her return to work. After losing her mother, Mai went through a deeply challenging period. She credits My Heart and Its Key for coming at the perfect time, pulling her out of her sorrow. “The series was offered to me when I needed it most,” she said. “It truly helped me move past my grief.”
She explained that after her mother’s passing, her friends—especially Yasmin Abdel Aziz—encouraged her to get back to acting. They believed it would be the best way to shift her focus and lift her spirits. Their advice proved right, as the project gave her a new sense of purpose.
Collaboration with Tamer Mohsen
Mai praised director Tamer Mohsen for his unwavering support throughout the process. He was the one who approached her with the role, guiding her to deliver a performance that felt fresh and distinct from her previous work. “Tamer stood by me and helped me prepare for the character,” she shared. “He encouraged me to bring something new to the table, despite the emotional struggles I was facing.”
She described her character, Mayar, as a deeply human figure—flawed, complex, and relatable, much like the other characters in the series. “These contradictions make their lives feel real,” Mai noted. She expressed gratitude to Mohsen for drawing out raw emotions she didn’t realize she could tap into, even amid her personal grief.
Audience Reactions
The overwhelming positive feedback from viewers has been a major morale boost for Mai. “The audience’s response gave me a huge psychological lift,” she said. “I’m so thankful and happy for this success, especially after such a tough time.” The outpouring of love from fans on the streets, social media, and critics alike reaffirmed her belief that diving into this role was the best decision she could have made. “Living through Mayar and focusing on her details brought me back,” she added.
Working with Asser Yassin
Mai also shared behind-the-scenes highlights, including her first on-screen collaboration with Asser Yassin. “Asser was incredibly supportive during filming,” she said. “He, along with the entire team, looked out for me.” She highlighted the camaraderie with other cast members like Ashraf Abdel Baqi—a lifelong friend—Diab, Aida Riyad, and the rest of the crew. Their encouragement made the experience even more meaningful.
