Badriya Al-Bishr Discusses “A’sha Street” and Nasser Al-Qasabi’s Role in the Project
Badriya Al-Bishr: Thrilled to See Her Characters Touch People’s Hearts
Renowned writer Badriya Al-Bishr recently expressed her pride in witnessing the characters she crafted come to life on screen. She emphasized that the success of A’sha Street stems from a perfect blend of professional scriptwriting, skilled direction, impressive cinematography, and powerful performances by the cast. “The novel was the foundation,” she said, “but I worked hard to enhance the plot, dialogue, and character development.” Reflecting on her optimism from the start, she added, “I was very hopeful from the beginning, and that hope was well-placed.”
A Fresh Portrayal of Arab Women in A’sha Street
Badriya highlighted her determination to present a new image of Arab women in literature, moving away from the stereotype of the broken or defeated woman often seen in feminist novels. She explained that the character “Wadha” was inspired by a real woman she met—a poor mother of four who built a life through her own efforts. “I wanted to create a strong, inspiring female character who overcomes challenges and achieves success,” Badriya noted. This vision sets A’sha Street apart, offering a compelling and empowering narrative for viewers.
Badriya Al-Bishr: Nasser Al-Qasabi Saved Wadha’s Character
Badriya also revealed the significant influence of her husband, actor Nasser Al-Qasabi, on shaping Wadha’s character. While writing, she turned to him for advice, questioning whether it made sense for Wadha to become a drug dealer due to her tough circumstances. Nasser advised against it, suggesting instead that Wadha remain a principled woman who fights for her values until the end. “He told me, ‘Let her triumph for her principles to the very last moment,’” Badriya shared. This guidance transformed Wadha into a beacon of inspiration for women, reinforcing the story’s emotional depth.
