Global Egyptian artist Rami Malek, an Oscar winner, has revealed his encounters with racism and improper treatment by the Los Angeles Police Department.
During an international press conference, Malek detailed an incident where he was detained by the police due to a liquor store robbery and a woman’s purse theft. He described his ordeal, saying, “They threw me against the car, thinking the description of the perpetrator was of someone of Latin descent, and told me I matched that description,” adding that had it not been for his friend’s timely intervention, clarifying that Malek is an Egyptian actor, not Latin, the situation could have escalated.

He spoke about his childhood in the United States, stating, “I feel a lack of full belonging because of my different cultural background, despite my European appearance.”
